Shelter from the Deadly Pestilence

Psalm 91:1-4
1He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

Many of us are confined to our homes to “take shelter” from the virus. The psalmist reminds us that our ultimate shelter and dwelling place is the Lord who is the Most High and Almighty. Our hearts are secure from fear when we rest in Him. The promise of deliverance isn’t absolute, for Scripture makes it clear that the believer is not exempt from the difficulties of life. But if our heart’s home is in the Lord, He is faithful and will see us through safely into eternity. I love the metaphor of the mother bird sheltering her young under her wings. The picture is one of tender protection. The mother bird protects from weather and danger by bearing them herself, and this is what Jesus did for us when he bore our sins on the cross.
